Chartered Physiotherapy

What is physiotherapy?

To quote the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy…

“Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession with a science foundation. The range of work is very broad and varied and involves working with people to promote their own health and well being.

Physiotherapy helps restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness or by developmental or other disability.
Physiotherapists work in a wide variety of health settings such as intensive care, mental illness, stroke recovery, occupational health, and care of the elderly.”

PhysioElite uses physical approaches to promote, maintain and restore physical, psychological and social well-being, taking account of variations in health status.

Sports injuries and rehabilitation

Sports injuries can result from impact (trauma) or strain, or simply from the overuse or over extension of muscles and ligaments. The misnamed tennis elbow for example, is a form of repetitive strain injury, ironically rarely occuring in tennis players!

Rehabilitation from sports injuries can vary enormously in terms of time and the treatment given. A simple torn ligament can take months to fully repair and some back injuries much longer. Knee pain can be a sign of underlying long-term damage and should be addressed immediately. A simple sprain may be repaired with the right treatment in a matter of weeks.

At PhysioElite we specialise in sports injuries and work with a number of local clubs and sports associations.

Bowen therapy

Bowen Technique is a soft tissue remedial therapy.

The technique comprises sets of subtle but dynamic rolling moves made by thumbs and fingers over muscles and soft tissue at specific points on the body. Each set of moves triggers a response in the brain, through the nervous system, which starts the healing process in motion. Bowen Technique is popular not least because it can take place through light clothing, removing the need to undress.

A further distinguishing feature of Bowen is that the therapist leaves the room for a few minutes in between each set of moves. These short breaks allow the body and nervous system to absorb the effect of the moves straight away and initiate the healing process.

It is not unknown for people to relax to the point that they actually fall asleep.

For those who feel the need to be pummelled and manipulated by other body therapies, Bowen seems, at first glance to be too light to be produce the desired results. But with Bowen, less is more. The moves may be light but the results are strong.

Often only three or four treatments are required to achieve a positive result, even with chronic pain. Many clients will continue to have top-ups to keep the body at optimum levels.

Perhaps surprisingly, whilst Bowen excels in the treatment of back pain, frozen shoulder, stiff neck and knee problems (to name but a few) Bowen can also provide relief from such conditions as IBS, tinnitus, headaches, fertility issues, asthma and hay fever.
