Hip Pain
The two most common conditions causing hip pain are:
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS)
This condition involves inflammation of the gluteal muscles almost always gluteus medius and gluteus minimus, located on the outer side of the hip. It often results from repetitive stress, poor biomechanics, or muscle imbalances, leading to lateral hip pain, which worsens with activities like walking, climbing stairs, or lying on the affected side. The best treatment for this condition is Radial shockwave
Hip Osteoarthritis (OA)
A degenerative joint condition where the cartilage in the hip joint gradually wears down, leading to pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility. It commonly presents as groin pain, stiffness in the morning, and discomfort with weight-bearing activities that worsen the longer you are on your feet. Hip OA can be managed conservatively in many cases by increasing range of movement through specific stretching techniques, and in more severe cases, the use of Focused Shockwave Therapy to improve the articular structures. Exercise can be very helpful with both conditions, but the loading progression must be carefully managed by your physiotherapist. A comprehensive treatment plan, such as those we provide through Post Surgery Physiotherapy Bristol, can significantly improve mobility and quality of life.
