What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a specialised healthcare treatment aimed at improving your physical movement, reducing pain, and promoting overall well-being.
By using a variety of techniques such as hands-on therapy, exercise, and education, physiotherapy helps you manage and recover from injuries, reduce chronic pain, and enhance your mobility.
A physiotherapist is trained to assess and treat a wide range of physical conditions, ensuring you get the most effective, individualised care. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, dealing with long-term pain, or simply aiming to improve your physical performance, physiotherapy offers a holistic approach to healing.
How Does Physiotherapy Work?
Physiotherapy works by addressing the root causes of your pain or mobility issues, helping you restore function and prevent future injuries. Your physiotherapy journey typically begins with a thorough assessment, where the physiotherapist will evaluate your condition, listen to your concerns, and assess your movement patterns.
Based on the assessment, a personalised treatment plan is created to help you achieve your goals. This may involve a combination of the following:
- Manual Therapy: Techniques such as joint mobilisation and soft tissue massage to relieve pain, improve movement, and enhance mobility.
- Exercise Therapy: Customised exercises designed to increase strength, flexibility, and range of motion delivered electronically using our Physio Tools app which patients can download free of charge. Exercises are available for 1 year.
- Posture and Movement Education: Guidance on effective postural alignment, body mechanics, and movement strategies to prevent strain and injury.
- Taping: The application of specialised kinesiology tape to support muscles and joints, reduce pain, and help with recovery by offloading pressure, and improving tissue healing by promoting glide of the tissue layers.
Physiotherapy empowers you with the knowledge and tools to manage your health and live pain-free, whether that’s through improving your posture, strengthening weakened muscles, or guiding you through specific exercises to support long-term recovery.
