Shockwave and how it can help you

Shockwave is delivered by two types of equipment each producing a different depth and power of shockwaves.

The first is Radial Shockwave (RSW) which is ideally suited to treating chronic (3 months+) tendinopathies such as Achilles Tendon pain, Tennis Elbow and Runners Knee (infra patellar tendinopathy). The depth of penetration of the soundwaves is relatively superficial at 40mm maximum depth.

The second is Focused Shockwave (FSW) produced by a much more powerful machine that delivers higher energy waves at a deeper depth of up to 125mm. FSW has more purposes including the conditions stated above as well as bony pathologies such as the healing of fractures, and the healing of shin splints (true stress fractures of the tibia). It also has an application in Men’s Health with conditions such as Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome (CPPS), Erectile Dysfunction (ED).

James has recently trained with UK leading experts in the field of Men’s Health, and this will become an important part of his practice. One area that he plans to explore more deeply is Radial vs Focused Shockwave Therapy, particularly for conditions that affect men’s health. James totally believes in the empowerment of men to take charge of their health and be provided with the education to make the best possible health choices for themselves. Often, lifestyle changes, including reducing alcohol intake, improving diet, reducing fat mass, and improving sleep, are key to the success of such treatments. James will produce a series of articles specifically on this subject to provide more depth of understanding and hopes to eventually offer podcast content to interested men.

Here are two PDFs detailing the differences between Radial and Focused Shockwave to assist patients.
