In physiotherapy clinics, we see a wide range of injuries. However, many of them tend to follow similar patterns.
Understanding why these problems occur can help you manage them more effectively and, in some cases, prevent them from returning.
Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common issues we treat.
It is often not caused by a single injury, but by a combination of factors such as prolonged sitting, reduced movement, or a sudden increase in activity. In many cases, the back becomes sensitive due to changes in how it is being used over time.
Shoulder Pain
Shoulder pain frequently develops gradually rather than from one specific incident.
It is often linked to repetitive movements, changes in activity levels, or how the shoulder is being loaded over time. This can lead to irritation of the surrounding muscles and tendons.
Tendon Injuries
Tendon problems such as tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy or patellar tendon pain are very common.
These injuries usually occur when the load placed on a tendon increases more quickly than the tendon can adapt. This might happen when starting a new activity, increasing exercise intensity, or returning to sport too quickly.
Neck Pain
Neck pain is often associated with sustained positions, particularly during desk work or prolonged screen use.
A lack of regular movement throughout the day can lead to stiffness and discomfort.
Why Do These Injuries Happen?
Although these problems affect different parts of the body, they often share a common cause.
In many cases, the body has been exposed to more load or stress than it is currently prepared for. This might be due to:
• sudden changes in activity levels
• repetitive movements over time
• reduced strength or conditioning
• long periods of inactivity followed by increased demand
The Good News
The body is highly adaptable.
With the right approach, most of these injuries can be improved by gradually restoring strength, movement and tolerance to activity.
